Peggy Webber, Producer/Director
The California Artists Radio Theatre was founded by veteran actress Peggy Webber, the producer and director of the company's productions. She frequently adapts the radio scripts from the literary source material, works with composers to score the music, and supervises the editing process.
She is truly inspired by those with whom she works. As she explains, "When you work with excellent talent, the result is usually what one would expect. With our classics, as well as our contemporary works, my main objective is to remain true to the author's intent, keeping the story interesting for adults, as well as appealing to students at all levels." |
Throughout her storied career, Peggy has performed in over 8,000 network radio shows, 300 television programs, 100 stage plays, and 20 feature films. In the early days of television, Peggy wrote, directed, and performed in Treasures of Literature, a live, weekly series broadcast from KFI in Los Angeles. For this show, she received an award from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for Most Popular and Outstanding Production of a Live Drama Series for 1948-49, a precursor to the Emmy Award. In the years since, she has been Artistic Director of seven theatres before founding the non-profit California Artists Radio Theatre. She has earned 30 national and international awards as Producer/Director.
When asked about the mission of CART, Peggy says, "My hope is that these stories encourage young people to read and discover the rich literary heritage awaiting them." |
