Sixteen-year-old Vladimir Petrovich (Lamont Johnson) is in a restless state as his family goes to the country for their summer vacation. The move in next door to a very poor, slovenly princess (Kathleen Freeman). However, her beautiful daughter, Zinaida (Bairbre Dowling), leads Vladimir into a way of life he had never known. With visitors, parties, and beaus, Vladimir becomes inflames and finds himself experiencing the pains of his...first love.
